Canal Sugar is an integrated Agro-industrial project incorporating reclamation and cultivation of 181,000 Fed of land (c.76,000 hectare /790 square kilometers), making it the largest agricultural project in Egypt since 1952, in addition to building and operating the world’s biggest sugar beet processing plant with an annual production capacity of 900,000 Tons of a premium white sugar.
Tamkeen has been contracted to lead the land reclamation and sugar beet cultivation in Oct-2020 for one year contract.
We are fully proud and have the sense of victory after achieving land reclamation of 14,000 Fed in one year and grow beet on 10,500 Fed such beet yields 46 MT/Fed of beet root which equal to 110 MT/ha and gain the white sugar yield of 8.1 MT/Fed of white sugar which equals 19.3 MT/ha.
Crop cultivation production conditions were very tricky and difficult under the conditions of high-saline calcareous soil and medium-saline irrigation water, we learned a lot about how to manage the crop through using different technical techniques.
